Automated Salon SMS Reminders That Fill Your Book

Part 5 of Spring Sorted: the 8-week series on getting your salon Christmas ready.
Salon SMS reminders are the only member of your team who never forgets, never gets busy, and works at ten o'clock at night.
Last week you sent one warm invitation by hand to the clients who had drifted. It worked, and it also took a chunk of an evening. This week is about never having to do it by hand again.
Rebooking on autopilot
Every client has a rhythm. Six weeks for a cut, ten for a colour, four if they are keeping a fringe honest. You know these rhythms instinctively for the people you see most, and not at all for the two hundred others.
Smart Send knows them for everybody. It watches when each client was last in and sends a friendly message when they are due back, automatically, without anyone opening a spreadsheet.
The timing is what makes it work. A reminder that lands the week somebody is actually starting to think their colour needs doing does not feel like marketing. It feels like good service, and it arrives at the one moment they are most likely to act on it.
There is a quiet compounding effect to this as well. A client who gets nudged at the right moment comes in slightly more often than one who does not, not dramatically, just nine weeks instead of eleven. Across a whole client list, over a season, that gap is the difference between a book with holes in it and a book that looks after itself.
Set it once, now, and it runs through November and December while you are busy doing hair. That is the entire pitch.
What great salon SMS reminders look like
Here is the shape of one that works:
Hi Sam, it has been 6 weeks since your last visit to Luxe Hair. Your favourite time is filling fast for December. Book online here: [your booking link]
And a gentler follow up, for the ones who read the first and meant to get to it:
Hi Sam, just a friendly nudge from the team at Luxe Hair. We still have a few good times left before Christmas if you would like one: [your booking link]
Four things are doing the work in both:
- Their name. Filled in automatically, but it is still the difference between a message and a broadcast.
- The timing. Sent when the client is genuinely due, not on a date that suited your marketing calendar.
- Gentle urgency. December fills fast, and everybody already knows it, so you are reminding rather than pressuring.
- One tap to book. The link does the rest. No ring us back, no reply with three times that suit.
What is missing matters too. No exclamation marks stacked up, no capitals, no discount. You are not buying the booking. You are just making it easy.
Setting up the automatic re-book reminder is covered here: Automatically Market to Clients Re-book Reminder.
Going further with Smart Send Plus
The standard re-book reminder covers most of what a salon needs. When you want more control, Smart Send Plus lives under Admin > Messaging and lets you build fully custom automated messages: your own triggers, your own timings, your own wording.
Salons use it for the things that are specific to them. A different rhythm for colour clients than for cuts. A note before a long appointment about what to bring. A welcome message for somebody's second visit that reads differently from their twentieth. The Smart Send Plus guide walks through building one.
Whatever you build, keep one rule: every automated message should be something you would be happy to have read aloud to the client in the chair. If it would make you wince in person, it will make them wince on the phone.
Start with the standard reminder though. Get it running this week, see how it behaves, and add the clever ones later. An automation that is live and ordinary beats an ambitious one you are still designing in November.
Personalise your templates
Every SMS and email template in Simple Salon can be edited, which is the step most people skip and the one that changes how the messages land.
Read the default out loud. If it does not sound like something you would say across the basin, change it until it does. Salons have voices. Some are warm and chatty, some are brisk and professional, and clients can tell the difference between yours and a template. Ten minutes editing your wording is worth more than any amount of clever targeting. The template editing guide is here.
One housekeeping note while you are setting up automated messages. Marketing texts in Australia come with rules: you need consent, you have to identify your business, and you have to give people a way to opt out. The ACMA sets out what that means in practice. It is general information rather than advice about your salon, and it is a short read.
Questions salon owners ask about salon SMS reminders
What is the best time to send salon rebooking reminders?
When the client is due back, which is the point of automating it rather than picking a date. Within the day, mid morning and early evening tend to get read. Avoid very early, very late, and the middle of Sunday.
Do automated SMS reminders feel impersonal?
They do when they are left on the default wording and read like a system talking. Personalised templates fix that almost entirely. The client cannot tell whether you pressed send, and honestly it does not matter to them. What they notice is whether it sounds like you.
What is Smart Send Plus in Simple Salon?
It is the custom layer on top of the standard automated messages, under Admin > Messaging. You choose the trigger, the timing and the wording, so you can build automations that match how your salon actually works.
How many SMS are included in Simple Salon plans?
Pro includes 200 SMS per operator each month and Max includes 300. Pricing is in AUD per Bookable Operator and capped at 7 operators, with Starter at $25, Pro at $45 and Max at $55. Full pricing here.
